Tester programme policy

What a test build is

Software that runs but is not finished: features still change, the interface still moves, and bugs we do not know about are still in there. Products at this stage carry the "In testing" label in the catalogue and are not on sale.

Joining and leaving

• Each product opens a limited number of slots. Joining gives you a licence to run the test build straight away.
• One slot per account per product.
• You can leave whenever you like — the test licence stops with you.
• We may remove someone who redistributes a test build or uses it in bad faith. Anyone removed cannot rejoin on their own.

What we expect from you

• Use it for real and tell us what you hit. One report with steps to reproduce is worth ten compliments.
• Do not pass the test installer outside the programme.
• Do not post screenshots of unreleased features publicly before we announce them.

Points

• Joining earns points once.
• Any week you actually open the software earns more.
• Accepted bug reports earn points by severity.
• Points buy plans on products already on sale. They are not cash and cannot be transferred.

What can go wrong

Stated plainly, because this is the part people skip and then resent:

• The software may freeze, quit, or damage the file you have open. Do not use a test build for important work you have not backed up.
• Data created in a test build may be lost at the final release if the storage format changes.
• A feature you like may be dropped before release.
• We make no uptime guarantee, no promise to fix a bug within any particular window, and we do not compensate losses arising from use of a test build.

Data in test builds

Test builds send back the same data as released builds: account, licence, device, sign-in log. The details are on the privacy page. A test build enables no extra collection without saying so first.

When the product is released

• Test licences stop at release. We email you beforehand.
• People who took part get a discount on a plan — the exact figure is announced with the release.
• Points earned in the programme stay with you and can still be spent.
